Technology does make a difference!

Our saunas and related products are designed with the correct and most up-to-date technologies for therapeutic detoxification.

Dry saunas: Dry heat saunas can cause more sweating than conventional steam heat saunas. Steam heat feels hotter to the skin at the same temperatures as dry heat, and therefore it is not tolerated for as long as dry heat. You'll tire sooner and want to get out of the sauna more quickly with steam heat. It may seem harder to breathe hot steamy air than hot dry air. Many researchers believe that people actually sweat more in a dry sauna. Another disadvantage of steam saunas is that they encourage mold and fungus growth more than dry saunas. Moisture may remain in a steam sauna for long after it has cooled down.

Infrared technology: Saunas can warm you by convection (hot air passing over your skin), or by infrared emission.  If you've ever walked into a room with a hot stove or a roaring fire across the room and felt the heat on your face, that was infrared heating. The warmth of the sun on your body is from infrared rays. Infrared rays can pass through even cold air to warm a distant surface. An infrared sauna uses infrared emitters to "shine" infrared rays onto your skin. You can't see infrared, but you can feel it. With infrared saunas, the air is also heated, but to a lower temperature for the same sweating effect. You suffer less, and can tolerate longer sessions than regular convectively heated saunas.

The Far Infrared (FIR) technology advantage: Not all infrared is the same. Infrared is specified by it wavelength. Just as red light has a different wavelength than blue light, "far" infrared differs from "near" or "medium" infrared. An optimum spectrum of infrared occurs in the 5 to 15 um range of wavelengths, with the region around 9 microns being the optimal, just as the Sun's infrared output peaks at around 9 microns. Our portable sauna uses special carbon-fiber panels to emit infrared in the correct infrared band, centered at 9 microns.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

FIR infrared ray energy is a part of the natural light spectrum of sunlight - not the skin damaging ultraviolet (UV) which is on the opposite end of the spectrum. In Asia and Europe it has already revolutionized the health and beauty industries.

Far Infrared radiation is a form of "light" energy from the sun. It falls next to the the range of infrared closer to the visible range. But due to its longer wavelengths, FIR cannot be seen by human eyes, just like as Ultraviolet Rays (UV), which exist on the opposite side of the visible spectrum, cannot be seen. The sun provides it to us, but we humans now spend too much time indoors, in artificial lighting which cannot match the emissions from the sun.

The human body can absorb FIR because of its deep penetrating ability. When FIR penetrates through the skin to the subcutaneous tissues, it transforms from light energy into heat energy. The thermal effect within the deep layers of tissues cause blood vessels and capillaries to dilate, promoting blood circulation, and the heat so produced helps to mobilize body toxins and release metabolic wastes through sweating.

"Regular use of a sauna...may be as effective as a means of cardiovascular conditioning and burning of calories as regular exercise."

Sterling Heat saunas strive to match the peak output of the Sun in the 9 micron wavelength region of far infrared emission, which is thought to enhance deep tissue penetration and to maximize health benefit.
